You're here!
This is a bit of a belated post but we've just been so busy since your arrival!
You were born on 10 April. We went into hospital on 9 April and your mother was induced into labour. After getting an epidural, we thought things would calm down. It was around midnight when we were about to go to sleep. Then a nurse checked your mother and noticed your heart rate was dropping, and her blood pressure was also dropping. They made a decision to have a caesarian and pushed your mother to the operating theatre.
It all happened so fast - one minute I was getting ready to sleep, the next I was told to put on the blue gown and hat and to follow the bed being pushed out of the room.
When we arrived at the operating theatre, they said your mother was ready for a natural birth, and after just two pushes, out you came. With everything happening so fast, it was hard to register the the sight of you. We held you on our arms, but it was still so surreal. It was almost like we had gotten used to carrying you around in your mother's belly, that seeing you now was an unbelievable sight.
We stayed in hospital for four nights, and the following few weeks were almost torturous. The pregnancy had a brutal effect on your mother's body. She lost a lot of blood and could not walk properly. Your constant crying required our constant attention.
Fortunately I was able to take four weeks off work and help look after you. Going back to work was weird because all of a sudden I noticed you getting bigger and it felt like I was missing out on seeing you grow.
Now you're seven weeks old but it has felt like a year. You need to be held or else you will cry. So your mother holds you while I'm at work, and when I come home I take over to hold you while your mother either works or sleeps. You have to feed every 2-3 hours, and in between we have to change your nappies, wash the milk bottles, and try to get you to sleep. It's an enormous amount of work and I'm sure this whole process has aged your mother and I significantly.
But it was all worth it when we saw you smile yesterday.
