Current times
I'm sure by the time you read this everything will just be historical and not hold much meaning to you, but we are living in interesting times right now. Towards the end of 2019, a virus which we now call Covid-19 broke out in Wuhan China. It spread globally quite fast, but luckily your mother and I were able to still hold our wedding in February 2020. Then lockdowns in Australia began happening in March 2020.
The virus probably isn't as bad as the media makes it out to be, but it does appear to be quite dangerous to the elderly, so a lot of countries entered lockdowns where people were required to stay home. Fortunately I have a government job and your mother also has jobs where she can work from home. On a personal level, life hasn't changed too much other than working from home sometimes. I still go out daily, either for grocery shopping or exercise, and some days I still choose to go into the office because it's more efficient. However, it is eerie to see the city so empty every day. When the first lockdown happened the city was like a ghost town. I still remember walking through Westfield with no one else around to hear the PA system.
By now some countries have chosen to just live with the virus and continue on with their daily lives, while here in Australia we have almost gotten used to lockdowns, but we are told it will end later this month. People are getting vaccinated so it seems like we will finally be moving on with life. Your mother and I will be getting vaccinated next week. Although I'm not a big fan of it because I think the vaccine was rushed, we will need to get it if we want to travel overseas eventually.
I'm sure by April 2022 when you arrive, things will return to relatively normal and Covid-19 will just be something you read about in high school.
